Tag: WP Permalinks

If you look up a subpage or a post on your WordPress site and the browser address bar reads similar to www.yoursiteurl.org/?p=29 or www.yoursiteurl.org/?page_id=48, you are missing a great opportunity to provide the search engine crawlers with information as to the nature and topic of your page or post via a url.

In comparison, this post address is: http://nfn4good.org/2012/03/getting-search-engine-luv-via-wp-permalinks and already has a few important keywords that are also in the post title.

You can increase Search Engine Visibility change the way your WordPress site creates the permanent page/post URLs:

 • Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks
 • Change the setting to Month and Name settings
 • Save.

What this will do is put the words used in the post’s title and use it as part of the URL, which makes Google Search crawler aware of the keywords in the links and increases the weight of those keywords. The default setting doesn’t offer anything like that to the Google Search crawler: ?page=39 and is an opportunity missed.
